We may be nearing the end of Term 3, but there is no end in sight to the opportunities for Carmel students. The ‘write a book in a day’ event involved primary and secondary students and culminated in four books that I read with great pleasure over the weekend, coinciding with the sunshine which finally returned to Perth and the belief that spring might actually arrive at some point in the near future. My hope is that the young authors and illustrators who took part in the lengthy day of book writing are inspired by the activity and consider continuing their writing and illustrating as a genuine possibility for the future. I thank the English department and other staff for setting up such a fabulous opportunity.

Sunshine also shone down on us for the High School athletics carnival last Friday. As always, house colours were everywhere, from the gazebos and zinc sunscreen and the brilliant costumes and hair adornments. But it wasn’t just a fashion parade – some pretty impressive athletic prowess was on show, too. For the non-sporting amongst us, the kids’ performances are always a delight to watch and wandering in the sunshine admiring the effort involved made for a very positive end to the week. Congratulations to Teveria for their overall house win – it really was a close finish, with Z’fat chasing their heels by the end of the day. Well done to everybody for their sportsmanship and evident enjoyment of the event.

Shabbat shalom.
